According to ExxonMobil, a fire broke out at an oil refinery at around 2am — which did not immediately confirm the explosion or say what led to the fire.
Rohan Davis, manager of the ExxonMobil refinery, told reporters early Thursday that a fire had broken out at a gasoline unit and that emergency workers at the plant were working to put out the blaze just before sunrise.
Davis said the condition of the four injured was stable and he could not comment on the extent of their injuries.
The cause of the fire was not immediately known and an investigation is underway, Davis said.
The company is coordinating with authorities and monitoring air quality with regulators, Davis said.
“All of those results so far have had no impact on the community from an air quality perspective,” Davis said.
The refinery in Boutown is about 25 miles east of Houston Downtown.
